Nice to meet you! My name is Lisa and I live in Anthem, Arizona and currently teach 1st grade in Anthem Deer Valley School District . My love for children and education stems from a very young age. I am a certified teacher and have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with over 30+ years of teaching experience. I am a mother of 2 and have been married to a wonderful man for over 20 years. I have had the joy and privilege of teaching grades Preschool-5th grade. I have been a private tutor for 20+ years and truly enjoy what I do. ·

Why One-on-One Tutoring is Important?

Reading can be a challenge for some children. The letters can look all jumbled on the page or the child just got a late start in the literacy game. No matter where your child may be, a reading tutor is a fantastic option for any child that needs to learn to read. Private tutoring can be an incredible tool. Here are some reasons of what a private tutor can offer your child. One on one support, make reading fun, help increase comprehension and most important, increase their reading confidence.

There is a huge difference between what a student gets out of a classroom and how they can benefit from one-on-one tutoring. A teacher has to cater their lessons to a group of students, and those students come from many different backgrounds, learning styles and interests. While teachers do phenomenally well at one of the toughest jobs, a student that receives one-on-one tutoring, catered to their individual needs, can make leaps and bounds academically.

One-on-one tutoring also allows for the lesson to be catered to their particular learning style. Every student learns differently. They can be a visual learner where they learn through seeing. Phonemic Awareness

Phonemic Awareness is the ability to hear, identify, manipulate and substitute phonemes in spoken words. Students work to build an auditory understanding of sound to word knowledge.

Phonics

Phonics is the nuts and bolts of the reading process. Even if a student does not know what a word means, they will still be able to phonetically sound it out. They can make the connection between letters and sounds.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary is the meaning of words within the context or in isolation. A students’ vocabulary will grow as they read and are introduced to new words. Students with broader vocabularies are more confident when reading challenging or unfamiliar material.

Fluency and Comprehension

It's reading with accuracy, speed and understanding. They are very closely tied. Students cannot fully understand the meaning and ideas behind a story without the ability to read it fluently. It's the culmination of all of the reading skills and the goal of learning to read.
